CM Assures Fresh Probe, Action Against Threat-Mongers

Shimla: In a significant development in the IGMC Shimla case, representatives of the Doctors’ Association on Friday today met Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, seeking justice in the matter related to the termination of Dr Raghav Narula, senior resident in pulmonary medicine.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister assured the doctors that all their concerns would be given due and serious consideration.

He announced that a fresh investigation would be ordered in the Dr Raghav Narula case, amid allegations of one-sided action, RDA told media persons after the meeting.

The Chief Minister also assured strict action against those who created a ruckus and issued threats within the hospital premises, asserting that violence and intimidation in healthcare institutions would not be tolerated. To prevent recurrence of such incidents, hospital security will be further strengthened, he said.

The Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) reiterated its demand for revocation of Dr Raghav Narula’s termination order, terming it unjust and hasty.

Meanwhile, the future course of the doctors’ strike movement will be decided in a high-level meeting scheduled for this evening, to be attended by the Joint Action Committee comprising the RDA, HMOA and SAMDCOT. The meeting will chalk out the next line of action in view of the Chief Minister’s assurances.

The developments are being closely watched, as the issue has triggered widespread concern among the medical fraternity across Himachal Pradesh.
