View of Chandrabhaga Mountain in Lahaul- Spiti

SP Lahaul-Spiti, Mayank Choudhary, stated, "The aircraft, which carried 102 soldiers, had crashed at Chandrabhaga 13 nearly 56 years ago. Over the years, multiple attempts have been made to locate the remains of the fallen soldiers."

So far, five bodies had been recovered from the crash site in previous operations. In September, a fresh team was deployed, resulting in the discovery of four more sets of remains.

These bodies were found in a decomposed state and have been identified as Malkhan Singh from Saharanpur, Sipahi Narain Singh from Pauri Garhwal, Sipahi Munshi Ram from Rewari, Haryana, and Thomas Cherian from Kerala.

Following the recovery, the police immediately contacted the Army.

The bodies are now being transported to Losar, where a post-mortem will be conducted before they are handed over to the respective families for final rites.
