Upon his return to Shyam village after a 21-day Climate fast, Sonam Wangchuk expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received.
He stated, "The solidarity from religious leaders across India, including the Shankracharya of the Shaktipeeth, is truly heartening."
He said, "We urge the central government to safeguard Ladakh's culture, biodiversity, and democracy."
Highlighting the encroachment by China on Ladakh's border, Wangchuk announced plans for a symbolic Pashmina March, akin to Gandhi's Dandi March, scheduled for April 7th.
He said, "This march aims to spotlight the challenges faced by Ladakhi shepherds and the region's environmental degradation."
Wangchuk emphasized the need for unity among citizens and leaders, stating, "Preserving Ladakh's culture is paramount."
He urged the government to restore democratic governance in the region, saying, "It's crucial to uphold democratic principles in Ladakh."
Echoing Wangchuk's sentiments, the Shankracharya expressed a deep connection to northern India's culture.
He said, "Respecting Ladakh's autonomy and cultural heritage is imperative."
The Shankracharya advocated for democratic principles to be upheld, stating, "The government must respect Ladakh's unique identity."
Wangchuk reiterated his commitment to advocating for Ladakh's rights.
He stated, "We will continue mobilizing support until the government addresses the pressing issues facing Ladakh's people and environment."
