The Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Board  under the HP Tourism and civil aviation has invited bids to transform this iconic rink into an all-weather ice and roller skating facility. The project, costing 3.32 million USD, aims to be completed in 24 months.

The upgrade will include firefighting and alarm systems, surveillance, and advanced refrigeration, ensuring skating all year round.

Due to climate change, the rink is currently unusable for ten months a year, and even in winter, temperatures often don't drop enough for ice.

The last date for bid submissions is August 8, 2024, with the selected contractor expected to complete the project on time under the ADB-funded tourism development project.

The trial sessions were delayed due to cloud cover  in December to January last, which prevented ice formation.

The club's executive committee, including Manjiv Bhalla, Secretary Rajat Malhotra and Treasurer Ramanik Goyal,  had announced plans to modernize the rink into an all-weather facility.

The project, costing 3.32 million  USD , will meet international standards and include a refrigeration plant for year-round skating.

The  club members emphasized the need for prompt government action to start the project, aiming to provide a world-class facility for both local skaters and tourists and motivating youth to  adventure sports.

This ice skating season promises to attract enthusiasts from all backgrounds, offering a platform to showcase their skills.

The club invites skaters of all levels to participate in winter games and earn accolades.

Enthusiasts are encouraged to embrace the thrill of ice skating and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the Shimla Ice Skating Club round the year.
