SJVN’s cmd Sharma

Shimla: SJVN has reached a new pinnacle by being awarded the prestigious Navratna status by the Department of Public Enterprises, Government of India.

This accolade makes SJVN the 25th Navratna company in the country and is a significant milestone in the company’s 36-year history.

Expressing his joy, SJVN’s Chairman and Managing Director, Sushil Sharma, credited this achievement to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He also extended his gratitude to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Power Minister Manohar Lal for their continuous guidance and support. Special thanks were reserved for the Government of Himachal Pradesh, a steadfast equity partner in SJVN’s journey.

Sharma highlighted that the Navratna status is reserved for Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) that showcase exceptional financial and managerial performance. "This recognition not only honors our past achievements but also sets the stage for us to take on larger projects, form strategic partnerships, and play a more significant role in achieving the government’s goal of 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030," Sharma said.

With this status, SJVN can now invest in its projects without financial limits, which will speed up the company’s growth trajectory.

Additionally, SJVN can now invest up to 30% of its net worth annually, bolstering its ambitious expansion plans. The enhanced autonomy also empowers SJVN to form joint ventures, establish overseas subsidiaries, and restructure its organization for optimized operations.

SJVN was previously granted Miniratna status in 2008. Today, the company boasts a diverse project portfolio of 56,802.4 MW, with 13 projects totaling 2,466.5 MW of installed capacity currently in operation, and 75 projects in various stages of development, spanning hydro, solar, wind, thermal, and transmission sectors.

Established in 1988 as a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh, SJVN has since evolved into a major player in the power sector, with operations extending across India and Nepal.
