Monsoon Picks Up in Himachal: IMD Issues Advisory for Farmers, Tourists Urged to Stay Cautious
Shimla | 4 July 2025
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Shimla has flagged a key update for Himachal Pradesh residents as monsoon activity intensifies across the state.
A fresh bulletin released today warns of possible moderate to heavy showers in parts of the state over the next 24 to 48 hours, with changing weather patterns being closely monitored.
What This Means for Farmers
Farmers across mid and lower hills are being advised to postpone spraying of pesticides and fungicides, as rainfall activity is likely to wash away treatments.
IMD officials have urged apple, paddy, and vegetable growers to ensure proper drainage in fields and orchards to prevent root rot and waterlogging.
Areas like Mandi, Bilaspur, Palampur, and Kangra have already received moderate rainfall over the last 24 hours, raising concerns of fungal diseases in crops.
Shimla-based meteorologist said, “With above-normal minimum temperatures recorded in several districts and continued moisture influx, there is a high risk of fungal infections.
Farmers should take preventive measures and avoid unnecessary field activity during the predicted spell of rain.”
Advisory for Tourists
Tourists planning visits to hill stations including Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala, and Dalhousie are advised to remain vigilant, especially during travel on landslide-prone routes.
IMD recorded rainfall in Sarahan (36.5 mm), Kangra (22.7 mm), Mandi (20.4 mm), and Palampur (21.2 mm), indicating active pre-monsoon showers.
District administrations are on alert, with instructions to block vulnerable stretches of roads if needed. Local travelers are urged not to venture near swollen rivers, waterfalls, or slide-prone tracks in Kullu, Chamba, and Lahaul-Spiti districts.
Temperature Snapshot
The lowest minimum temperature was recorded in Keylong (14.7°C).
The highest maximum temperature yesterday was Hamirpur (33.9°C).
Shimla recorded 17.1°C as the minimum and received 36.4 mm of rainfall.
