SHIMLA — Tensions flared in the Cemetery area of Sanjauli on Monday after structural cracks tore through several residential buildings, prompting local residents to take to the streets against ongoing four-lane tunnel excavation.
Distraught families alleged that heavy vibrations from night-time blasting had compromised the structural integrity of their homes and triggered soil instability along the hillside.
Fearing imminent collapse, residents demanded an immediate end to the drilling.
In response to the growing panic, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) clarified to the High Court that all blasting operations have been strictly halted.
The agency assured that it is not resorting to blasting methods and pledged to implement comprehensive safety measures and technical evaluations before resuming any excavation work in the area.
