Traffic Mess, Plastic Waste, and Zero Action Despite Repeated Pleas
Kelong, Lahaul-Spiti:
Shashin village near Sissu has turned into a daily traffic nightmare—thanks to a deafening silence from the very people meant to fix it.
Despite repeated appeals, meetings, and written submissions to the new proactive administrative team—including DC Kiran Badana, SP Feroza, and even MLA Anuradha Rana—ground realities remain unchanged at Sissu.
On May 13, 2025, local residents submitted a formal request urging the administration to regulate traffic near the temple area in Shashin.
A meeting was held with the DSP, and a clear decision was taken: no local vehicles would be parked in the designated pilgrim space during daytime, and a board would be installed declaring the area as "Pilgrims Only."
But today, over a month later, there’s no board, no regulation, and the chaos continues.
Locals ask—is this governance looks like? Promises without execution?
Himal Chand Thakur, a senior citizen of Shishin whose pleas were heard by DC, SP but no action was taken so far.
The tunnel was completed four and a half years ago. The region opened up to thousands of tourists.
Yet traffic planning is still in limbo, and pilgrims stuck in jams are left cursing the system.
Worse, a plastic waste plant has been installed in one of the most avalanche-prone areas—from Kokhsar Nala to Gufa Hotel.
What kind of planning is this? Locals call it "pure foolishness," saying even common sense seems missing as their views are not taken before planning.
If this continues, Sissu and Koksar are not far from becoming Himachal’s next garbage dumps.
We ask again, loud and clear: install traffic light and press upon BRO to acquire and widen the road.
The administration should act before Sissu is buried under traffic and trash?
On the other hand, official inputs say the policemen regulate traffic there regularly. The problem is road is run by the BRO.
The parking is private. Stretch is narrow. Still we have written to the BRO to widen the flashpoint, they claim.
