Youth Urged to Support Administration During War: Defence Expert Speaks at Umang Foundation Webinar

Shimla, May 8:

Retired Major General Atul Kaushik has urged Indian youth to actively assist the civil administration in times of war-like situations, emphasizing their role in ensuring social stability and countering misinformation.

Speaking at a webinar organized by Umang Foundation, the defence expert called for young citizens to step up as volunteers and collaborate with authorities to support the nation in emergencies.

The webinar, themed “The Role of Youth in Times of War”, saw participation from nearly 100 young individuals who engaged directly with the veteran officer.

Prof. Ajai Srivastava, President of Umang Foundation, moderated the session and said the objective was to make youth aware of their responsibilities beyond the frontlines.

General Kaushik highlighted several ways the youth can contribute: “During a crisis, young people can play a vital role in rescue operations, organizing blood donation drives, giving first aid to air raid victims, and ensuring timely communication of government directives.”

He warned against the spread of misinformation during conflicts, particularly on social media. “Forwarding unverified or anti-national content only helps the enemy.

Such messages must be reported to cyber cells immediately. Trust only government sources for accurate updates,” he said.

He also cautioned against uploading videos of military convoys.

“Such content can be exploited by the enemy. If someone is doing this, report them to the police without delay,” he advised.

He encouraged youth to report any suspicious activity or individuals to the authorities.

Citing recent tensions along the Line of Control (LoC), Kaushik referred to the killing of Hindu pilgrims in Pahalgam, noting that India had already responded strongly through Operation Sindoor.

“Our forces are capable of handling the enemy. The responsibility of maintaining peace and public morale rests with the citizens,” he added.

Earlier in the session, the retired General explained the various forms of warfare and how the Indian Army is trained to handle them.

The webinar ended with an interactive Q&A where participants expressed keen interest in contributing meaningfully during national emergencies.
