Shimla: In a major crackdown on drug traffickers, the Shimla Police has seized LSD drugs worth nearly ₹1 crore during a raid in New Shimla and arrested a youth and a young woman.
Acting on a tip-off about LSD trafficking in the capital, the police raided a room in a building at New Shimla’s Him Niwas area. During the search, the team recovered 11.57 grams of Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD) along with 562 stamp-sized strips, commonly used to consume the psychedelic drug.
The accused have been identified as Priya Sharma, a resident of Dadahu in Sirmaur district, and Sandeep Sharma, a resident of Dharamkot tehsil in Moga district of Punjab.
New Shimla has become a hub for the young students as the coaching centres and BCS school are located in the area making it a soft target for the drug traffickers.
Both have been booked under the provisions of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway to trace the drug supply network.
Abhishek, ASP Headquarters Shimla, said the stamp-sized strips are typically used to administer LSD. He added that the accused are being interrogated to uncover the wider drug racket operating in the region.
Police suspect the drugs were meant for distribution among party circuits and tourists in the hill capital.
