Shimla, June 5: In a disturbing incident that has jolted the conscience of the city, an elderly resident of Kanganadhar, Shri N.C. Sharma, was mercilessly thrashed by his tenants, leaving him in severe pain and requiring hospitalisation. What’s worse — New Shimla police allegedly did nothing, prompting angry locals to hit the streets, demanding swift arrests.

The incident unfolded in Ward No. 30, Kanganadhar, when Sharma, a senior citizen, was brutally assaulted over a rental dispute. The victim was rushed to IGMC Shimla by local councillor Ram Rattan Verma, who said, “He complained of intense chest pain after the assault. What kind of law and order is this? Are our elderly not safe even in their own homes?”

As word spread, locals staged a dharna outside the police station, accusing the cops of deliberate inaction. Despite being informed, the police failed to nab the attackers, leaving the community enraged.

“This is not just a case of assault; it’s a failure of the system. When those meant to protect us choose silence, it’s the common man who bleeds,” said one protester.

Ram Rattan Verma, the Congress councillor from Kanganadhar, led the charge: “Respecting our elderly is the cornerstone of a civilised society. If police can’t act when a senior citizen is beaten black and blue, what message does that send?”

The incident has now snowballed into a larger debate over rising crime and police apathy in urban Shimla.

Locals are demanding immediate arrests, suspension of the negligent officers, and stronger protection mechanisms for senior citizens.

If justice is delayed any further, residents warn, this agitation will only grow louder.
