Shimla: The ICSE (Class 10) Examination 2026 results, declared by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, have once again brought focus to a unique policy of the board — no official merit list or toppers’ ranking.
Staying consistent with its approach to discourage unhealthy academic competition, the Council has not released any toppers list this year as well.
Instead, students can access their individual scores through the official websites — www.cisce.org and results.cisce.org.
Despite the absence of rankings, high achievers have emerged from schools across the country, often highlighted at the institutional level.
In Himachal Pradesh, Shimla has made a strong mark. Students from leading ICSE-affiliated schools have delivered exceptional performances.
The Syal sisters of Auckland House School scored an impressive 99.4 per cent, while Dev Jhanji from Bishop Cotton School secured 98.8 per cent, reflecting the high academic standards maintained by these institutions.
The achievement is particularly noteworthy given that ICSE has a limited footprint in Himachal Pradesh, where most schools are affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education.
With only a handful of ICSE schools in the state, such performances underscore the quality-driven, student-centric learning environment in these institutions.
Educationists say the ICSE board’s decision to move away from rank-based recognition is aimed at reducing stress and fostering holistic learning, even as healthy competition continues informally at the school level.
While there may be no official “toppers” this year— excellence doesn’t need a rank to stand out.
