SHIMLA/DEHRADUN, OCTOBER 7: A spell of unsettled weather is likely to continue across north and northwest India, with a Western Disturbance bringing rain to the plains and rain or snowfall to the higher reaches of the Himalayas. The weather system is likely to remain active over the region in the coming days, with Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand among the areas likely to see continued weather activity.

In the Himalayan belt, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to experience isolated to scattered rainfall, while higher elevations may receive snowfall. In Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also possible during the next few days. The latest IMD warnings indicate such activity in Himachal Pradesh through October 9 and in Uttarakhand through October 10.

The unsettled conditions will not be confined to the mountains. Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, as well as parts of Uttar Pradesh, are also likely to receive isolated to scattered rainfall, with thunderstorms and gusty winds in some areas. Rainfall activity is expected to persist across parts of the northwest through October 12, although the intensity and coverage are expected to vary from place to place.

For Himachal Pradesh, rain in the lower and middle hills and snowfall in the higher valleys could affect road movement, particularly on mountain routes. The weather may also complicate apple harvesting and transportation from high-altitude orchards, where growers are currently working to bring the crop down before conditions deteriorate.

Farmers in Himachal's apple-growing belts should use available dry-weather windows for harvesting and transportation, keep harvested produce protected from rain and avoid working in orchards during thunderstorms or lightning. Strong winds could also affect temporary structures and orchard equipment.

In Uttarakhand, rain and possible snowfall in higher reaches could similarly affect movement on mountain roads and pilgrimage and tourist routes. Travellers should check the latest local weather and road advisories before setting out, particularly for journeys into higher elevations.

Tourists travelling across the northern hills are advised to exercise caution as wet roads, reduced visibility, snowfall and sudden thunderstorms can make mountain travel hazardous. Unnecessary travel to higher elevations should be avoided during periods of heavy rain or snowfall.

Overall, the coming days are expected to remain unsettled across the Himalayan region and adjoining plains of north and northwest India, with the Western Disturbance maintaining weather activity over the mountains while rain and thunderstorms affect parts of the plains.I can also make this , with a sharper headline such as “Western Disturbance Keeps North India Wet, Snow in Higher Himalayas May Disrupt Apple Harvest, Travel”.
