Breaking News: Satluj River in Spate, Nathpa Dam to Release More Water
Shimla, August 26 – Authorities at the Nathpa Dam have announced the release of additional water into the Satluj River as inflows continue to rise sharply due to heavy rains in the upper reaches.
In an official communication, the Shift In-Charge of Nathpa Dam Operations (NJHPS, SJVN Ltd.) said that starting 9:30 am today, about 100 cumecs of extra water would be discharged through radial gates.
This will take the total downstream discharge to nearly 524 cumecs — including 443 cumecs from radial gates and 81 cumecs from the SFT channel.
Officials cautioned that if inflows continue to increase, more water may be released.
Downstream residents and authorities have been urged to remain alert and take precautionary measures along the riverbanks.
The alert comes amid widespread floods across Himachal Pradesh, with rivers swollen and red alerts issued in several districts.
