‘The WHITE Truth’ — A Web Series Exposes Drug Menace in Himachal, But Why Can’t We All Fight It Together?
Shimla, July 25: As the drug crisis grips the youth of Himachal deeper by the day, a new and rare effort has emerged — not from the government or police, but from concerned citizens, students, and activists.
A digital web series titled “The WHITE Truth” has been produced by the Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti (HGVS) in collaboration with volunteers from across the state.
Seven episodes. One goal — wake society up to the rising drug abuse among youth.
What’s Inside ‘The WHITE Truth’.? The series dives into: The psychological and social reasons behind drug use. The stigma and denial that surrounds addiction.
Parental responsibility
Drug trade and loopholes in the system. And most importantly — the path to recovery.
It’s being released via the Gyan Vigyan Stream (GVS) across platforms like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
The trailer launches on August 12, International Youth Day, and the full series will premiere statewide on September 8, International Literacy Day.
Governor Shukla’s Words — The Wake-Up Call
Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, in a recent address, clearly stated:
“Fighting drugs can’t be left to the police or government alone. Society has to take ownership. Youth must rise, not fall.”
And yet... Police Crackdowns, Posters, Marathons — But Drug Peddlers Still Thrive
Despite HP Police’s aggressive campaigns — drug marathons, awareness drives, and multiple raids — the supply chain remains intact.
From Una to Mandi, Kullu to Solan, cases of chitta, heroin, and synthetic drugs surface every week.
Why? Because while the police is fighting a visible war, society is still in denial mode.
Families ignore early signs. Schools avoid uncomfortable conversations. Politicians issue statements — but avoid accountability.
The Real Question: Why Can’t All Work Together?
Why are rehab centres still underfunded?
Why is there no joint platform for parents, teachers, and police?
Why does drug education begin after the crisis hits home?
And why are social efforts like ‘The WHITE Truth’ not supported at a state level?
‘The WHITE Truth’ is a Start — But We Need More Than Just a Series
This web series is not a magic bullet — but it's a wake-up call.
If Himachal really wants to save its youth, then it needs a coalition — system + society.
Not just raids, but reform. Not just slogans, but support.
Because drugs don’t ask whether you're a student, a politician, or a parent.

"Anti-drug drive gaining pace, but we lost crucial time" — Prempal Ranta
Comments: Welcoming the ongoing anti-drug campaign, , ex-District andSession judge, member secretary HPSLA, said, "Back in 2017, I had urged the state to fund a mass awareness drive, but it was declined. Glad the push is happening now, though much time has been lost."
He recalled efforts to involve PRIs, NGOs, teachers, doctors, and youth groups to form Drugs Anonymous groups and ensure treatment with confidentiality.
"Collective, compassionate action—not just enforcement—is key," he added.
