Flashflood Havoc in Kullu Valley: Three Feared Missing, Houses Washed Away After Cloudbursts
Shimla/Kullu, June 25:
A series of devastating cloudbursts triggered flashfloods across Kullu Valley on Wednesday, leaving behind a trail of destruction.
As many as three people are feared missing and four houses reportedly washed away in different parts of the valley, though officials are yet to confirm casualties.
Flashfloods were reported in Java Nala, Shankad, and Siund areas, while the swollen Sainj river wreaked havoc by submerging a mini-hydropower project and snapping road connectivity between Sainj and Siund.
Massive logs and uprooted trees were seen floating in the torrent, indicating the sheer scale of destruction.
In Banjar, several khuds overflowed dangerously, flooding roads and nearby areas.
Manikaran valley too witnessed a surge in local streams, especially Gheer Ganga, which flooded its banks, triggering panic among residents and tourists.
The sudden deluge caught the district administration and Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (HPSDMA) off guard.
With rescue efforts underway, the full extent of the damage—including infrastructure losses and human impact—was yet to be ascertained at the time of filing this report.
Local residents described the situation as unprecedented in recent years, urging immediate deployment of disaster relief teams and long-term mitigation measures.
