Chamba: Manimahesh Yatra Suspended Amid Heavy Rains, Landslide Threats

CHAMBA, AUG 25, 2025 – The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Chamba, has suspended the Manimahesh Yatra with immediate effect due to continuous heavy rainfall, landslides, and road blockages posing serious risks to pilgrims.

The order was issued today by Mukesh Repaswal, IAS, District Magistrate-cum-Chairperson, DDMA, Chamba, under Section 30 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.

According to the DDMA, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert for the coming days, heightening the risk of accidents and untoward incidents along the Yatra route.

The suspension comes after two pilgrims lost their lives due to rains and falling boulders.

DM said SDMs must ensure safe shelter, food, drinking water, and medical aid for pilgrims already on the route.

  • ADM Bhamour to coordinate with NDRF, SDRF, police, and mountaineering teams for the safe rescue of stranded pilgrims.

  • Superintendent of Police, Chamba to regulate vehicular traffic and stop pilgrims from moving beyond safe checkpoints.

  • Additional police personnel deployed at vulnerable points to maintain law and order.

  • Health, Food & Civil Supplies, PWD, and BDOs to ensure emergency healthcare, essential commodities, fuel, and road restoration wherever possible.

Deputy Commissioners and SSPs of Pathankot, Doda, Kishtwar, Jammu, and Kangra have also been instructed to restrict pilgrims from moving towards the Yatra until further notice.

The DDMA has urged all pilgrims and local communities to cooperate fully with authorities and adhere to safety instructions. This order remains in effect until further notice.
