Chennai, May 2026: In what is fast turning into a political earthquake in Tamil Nadu, actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has surged ahead in a stunning 106 Assembly seats, leaving traditional Dravidian heavyweights scrambling to catch up.

According to the latest constituency-wise trends released by the Election Commission of India, the political scoreboard reads like a script flip no one saw coming:

  • TVK – 106 leads

  • Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam – 55 (1 win, 54 leads)

  • All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam – 54 leads

  • Pattali Makkal Katchi – 5

  • Indian National Congress – 4

  • Indian Union Muslim League – 2

  • Bharatiya Janata Party – 2

  • Communist Party of India – 2

  • Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam – 1

  • Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi – 1

  • Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazagam – 1

  • Communist Party of India (Marxist) – 1

Out of 234 seats, results are declared in one, while trends are available for the remaining 233 constituencies.

Vote Share Puzzle Fuels Controversy

Even as TVK dominates seat trends, the party’s vote share remains conspicuously absent in the official party-wise percentage table released earlier. That dataset instead lumps a massive 39.19% under “Others”, triggering sharp reactions among TVK supporters.

The contradiction is glaring: a party leading in over 100 seats would typically command a significant vote share, not be buried in statistical obscurity.

Old Guard Under Pressure

The numbers show a dramatic churn. The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and विपक्ष rival All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam are locked in a tight mid-field battle, but both appear overshadowed by the TVK surge.

What’s Driving the Surge?

Early trends suggest:

  • Consolidation of youth and first-time voters behind Vijay

  • Anti-incumbency against established parties

  • A fragmented opposition vote benefiting TVK in multi-cornered contests

ECI Yet to Clarify

With trends still evolving, officials from the Election Commission of India are expected to update the vote-share matrix once counting stabilizes and party classifications are finalised.
