Negi Death Case: Family Moves High Court, Seeks CBI Probe Over Govt Inaction..
Shimla, April 21:
Family members of Vimal Negi, Chief Engineer at Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL), have moved the Himachal Pradesh High Court, seeking a CBI probe into his mysterious death.
The plea comes amid allegations that the state government has failed to take appropriate action against senior officials, including HPPCL’s former Managing Director Harikesh Meena.
Negi went missing from his Shimla office on March 10, and his body was found in the Gobind Sagar Lake on March 18.
His wife, Kiran Negi, along with other family members, has alleged that he was being mentally harassed by senior HPPCL officials and was under pressure to carry out unethical decisions.
Despite the gravity of the allegations, the Sukhu-led state government has not suspended Meena, which the family says shows administrative apathy and bias.
SIT investigation remains non conclusive. The findings of the Onkar Chand Sharma Inquiry report remains shrouded in mystery
The petition filed today has been listed for hearing tomorrow before Justice Ajay Mohan Goel for notice and further directions.
Negi’s brother told reporters, “We’ve moved court because the government is not serious about delivering justice. We want an independent investigation by the CBI.”
While one official, Desh Raj, has been suspended, Meena and another officer, Shivam Pratap Singh, were merely transferred. Both Meena and Desh Raj have been granted interim bail.
The family has also raised concerns about possible tampering of evidence and demanded strict action to ensure a fair probe. The case has drawn political attention as well, with opposition leaders calling the investigation process opaque and demanding a CBI inquiry.
The High Court will hear the matter on April 22.
