New Delhi: Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan has said that the Sudarshan Chakra will be the guiding force for India’s military preparedness in the 21st century.
Speaking at RANSAMWAD 2025 at Mbow , the CDS explained that just as the Sudarshan Chakra is a symbol of decisive power and precision, India’s defence forces too must develop capabilities across multiple domains to secure victory in future wars.
“The Sudarshan Chakra reflects the perfect blend of speed, sharpness and reach. That is exactly how our armed forces need to function in tomorrow’s battlefields,” he remarked.
The CDS underlined that technology is set to dominate strategy in the wars of the future. He noted that battlefields will no longer be limited to land, air or sea, but will stretch seamlessly across domains.
“Tomorrow’s wars will not recognise service boundaries. The response too has to be swift, decisive and joint, with every arm of the military working as one,” he stressed.
General Chauhan made a strong pitch for self-reliance in defence manufacturing and integrated logistics to back joint operations.
He said India’s push for Atmanirbharta in defence will be the foundation for building cutting-edge systems and ensuring that the armed forces are not dependent on outside support during critical situations.
Highlighting the rapid march of technology, the CDS said the military must institutionalise joint training and absorb emerging tools such as artificial intelligence, cyber warfare capabilities and quantum technologies.
“Only by embedding these into our operational planning can we stay ahead of our adversaries,” he observed.
Reaffirming the importance of jointmanship, General Chauhan said India’s transformation into a future-ready defence power will rest on the ability of its forces to act together.
“Jointness is not a choice anymore, it is a necessity,” he declared, adding that civil-military integration through the Sudarshan Chakra approach would ensure that India remains fully prepared for the uncertainties of future wars.
