Kolkata, May 4: The battle for West Bengal is turning into a high-voltage contest, with the Bharatiya Janata Party opening up a massive lead, putting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the back foot as counting trends firm up around .

According to the latest figures, BJP is leading in  181 seats, surging well past the halfway mark in the 190-seat trend tally so far. The ruling All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is trailing with 92 leads, indicating a sharp shift in the political landscape of the state.

Smaller players are barely making a mark, with the Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha, Aam Janata Unnayan Party, and Communist Party of India (Marxist) managing just one lead each.

The trends suggest a dramatic turnaround in Bengal politics, where Mamata Banerjee’s dominance is facing its toughest challenge yet. High voter turnout—reportedly record-breaking this time—had already hinted at an intense electoral churn.

While these are still early trends and no seats have been officially declared yet, the momentum clearly appears to be with the BJP at this stage. All eyes are now on whether Didi can claw back as counting progresses or if Bengal is headed for a political upset.

More updates to follow as counting continues.
