SHIMLA/NEW DELHI, OCT 28 – The Indian Army has taken a major stride toward strengthening its communication and network warfare capabilities by signing a landmark contract for the procurement of indigenously designed and manufactured Software Defined Radios (#SDR).
Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (#DRDO) and produced by Bharat Electronics Limited (#BEL), these cutting-edge SDRs are equipped with high data rate and Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) capabilities.
It is crucial feature that enables real-time, secure, and seamless connectivity even in dynamic and hostile environments, said army spokesperson.
Defence officials said the deployment of SDRs will mark a paradigm shift from conventional communication systems to modern, software-driven networks.
It is will significantly enhancing the Army’s operational readiness in information-intensive and network-centric battlefields.
The SDRs will allow soldiers, vehicles, and command centers to stay interconnected without dependence on fixed infrastructure. The New radios will ensure uninterrupted communication across terrains — from deserts to mountains.
The initiative is also a major boost for the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat mission, showcasing India’s growing self-reliance in advanced defence technologies.
