Dharamshala IPL Match Called Off Midway After Security Scare Amid India-Pak Tensions
Dharamshala, May 8 — A high-voltage IPL match at the scenic HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala came to a sudden halt on Thursday evening after a security threat triggered by rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
The game between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was abandoned midway, with Punjab at 122 for 1, after authorities received alerts of a potential risk. As a precaution, the stadium was immediately evacuated and players were rushed off the field under tight security. The floodlights were dimmed, leaving spectators confused and concerned as they were asked to leave the venue.
Though officials have not confirmed the exact threat, the incident comes in the wake of military escalation between the two countries. India had earlier carried out targeted strikes on multiple locations in Pakistan, in response to a terrorist attack in Kashmir that killed 26 tourists.
Due to the growing tension and closure of Dharamshala airport, the BCCI has shifted the upcoming Punjab Kings vs Mumbai Indians match to Ahmedabad.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said that despite the situation, all players — including international stars — feel safe and are ready to continue playing in the tournament.
Earlier, the local administration had already ramped up security for the IPL matches and President Droupadi Murmu's visit. Restrictions on drone activity and paragliding were also in place across Kangra district as a precaution.
Officials are expected to announce new arrangements for the abandoned match soon. Fans and players alike now await clarity on how the ongoing conflict might affect the remainder of the IPL season.
