Shimla, June 6: A dry and sunny spell has taken over Himachal Pradesh, bringing much-needed relief and joy to both tourists and apple growers in the state’s highland regions after widespread spells of rains.
With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting stable weather for the next five days, districts like Shimla, Kullu, Kinnaur, and Lahaul-Spiti are expected to bask in clear skies and rising temperatures — ideal for both travel and agriculture.
According to the latest IMD bulletin, light rainfall was recorded at a few isolated places like Rohru (10 mm), Chopal, Palampur, and Manali on Thursday, but the skies have since cleared up.
No rain, hail, or gusty winds are expected across the 12 districts of the state from June 7 to 10. The maximum temperatures are likely to rise by 4–6°C and minimums by 3–5°C in the coming days.
Tourism Picks Up in Highlands
The dry conditions have come as a boon for the tourism industry. Hill stations in the upper Shimla region, Kullu-Manali, and Kinnaur are witnessing an uptick in tourist footfall.
“The weather is perfect — cool breeze, green orchards, and sunny skies. It’s a great escape from the heat in the plains,” said Neha, a tourist from Delhi holidaying in Thanedhar.
Hoteliers and local travel businesses confirm increased bookings, especially from North Indian states looking for a mountain break.
No weather warnings have been issued, making it safer and more convenient for travellers to explore the region.
Apple Growers Relieved
The spell of dry weather has also brought smiles to the faces of apple orchardists.
This is a crucial period for fruit development, and dry, sunny days support healthy fruit setting.
“Too much rain or hail at this stage could ruin the crop. Right now, the weather is just what the orchards need,” said Deepak an apple grower from Shilgrahan in Shantha, Chopal.
The high-altitude apple belts of Shimla, Kinnaur, and parts of Kullu and Mandi — where temperatures remain moderate — are seeing active orchard work as growers prepare for the upcoming harvest.
Temperature Snapshot
On Thursday, Keylong was the coldest at 5.4°C, while Una recorded the highest temperature at 37°C. Despite this contrast, overall temperatures remain within comfortable ranges, and no heatwave conditions have been reported.
District Forecast (June 6–10):
Isolated Light Rain (June 6 only): Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla.
Dry Weather (June 7–10): Across all districts including Bilaspur, Una, Hamirpur, Sirmaur, Solan, Kinnaur, and Lahaul-Spiti.
With the monsoon still a few weeks away, this spell of calm weather is turning out to be a golden window for both nature lovers and the farming community.
