Yoga Goes Global: From Siachen to Schools, a Silent Revolution for ‘One Earth, One Health’
New Delhi/Shimla | June 21, 2025:
From the icy battlefield of Siachen to schoolyards in the Himalayas, from bustling cities to remote villages — yoga is no longer just India’s ancient gift, it's now a global health movement.
On the 11th International Day of Yoga, the slogan ‘One Earth, One Health’ echoed across the globe, proving that yoga is not just about physical fitness, but mental calm and social harmony too.
Siachen Soldiers Strike a Pose in Silence
At heights where the air thins and temperatures drop below freezing, Indian soldiers performed yoga with unwavering calm.
As part of #IDY2025, the Indian Army conducted yoga sessions across every terrain and climate zone of the country — from desert sands to glacial winds. What stood out was the participation — serving soldiers, veterans, children, families, and civilians — all embracing yoga as a way of life.
A Defence Ministry spokesperson said, “Yoga today is more than an exercise, it's a lifestyle. From the world’s highest battlefield to training camps, yoga helps our soldiers stay physically strong and mentally composed.”
From Patanjali’s Sutra to the World Stage
Thousands of years ago, sage Patanjali summed it up: “Yoga: Chitta Vritti Nirodha” — yoga is the stilling of the mind’s turbulence. As the world battles rising health emergencies, mental stress, and climate uncertainty, yoga has emerged as a quiet but powerful remedy. Not just adopted, it’s now lived across continents.
From Punjab Plains to Mountain Schools
Leading up to Yoga Day, the Indian Army hosted community yoga sessions in Punjab involving citizens across age groups. Meanwhile, students in mountain schools bent into asanas under clear skies.
Under the One Earth, One Health initiative, yoga is becoming a bridge between rural and urban, young and old.
Yoga Becomes the New Global Faith
Whether in a Tokyo boardroom or a Kabul clinic, yoga is being embraced as a language of balance. International agencies, from the United Nations to the WHO, now view yoga as a coùre tool in preventive healthcare and wellness. What was once India’s spiritual science is now humanity’s shared lifeline.
Yoga is no longer just Iýndia's cultural export — it’s now humanity’s heritage. In a world overwhelmed by pollution, anxiety, and lifestyle diseases, yoga is emerging as the ultimate sanctuary — where the body heals and the soul breathes.
