SHIMLA: Three alleged drug traffickers were arrested after the Special Task Force (STF) busted a heroin smuggling racket and seized 223 grams of heroin, locally known as "chitta", near Shastri ITI at Jasur in Kangra district on Saturday.
According to the police, the STF team was on routine patrol in the Jasur area when it received specific intelligence about drug smugglers operating near Shastri ITI. Acting swiftly, the team intercepted three suspicious persons and recovered 223 grams of chitta from their possession.
All three accused were arrested on the spot. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Nurpur, and investigators are now probing the source of the contraband, its supply chain, and possible links with a wider interstate drug trafficking network.
Police said the operation is part of the state's intensified drive against narcotics under the "Chitta-Free Himachal" campaign. The STF has been carrying out sustained operations across the state to dismantle drug networks and protect the youth from the growing menace of heroin addiction.
The police appealed to the public to share any information related to drug trafficking by dialing 112 or informing the nearest police station, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential.
The statewide anti-chitta campaign was launched by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on November 15, 2025. Police said the campaign continues with sustained enforcement and public participation to make Himachal Pradesh drug-free.
