Vows to Make State Most Prosperous by 2032, Launches Rs. 2 Cr Parking Facility in New Shimla

Shimla, May 4: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu made a strong pitch for the state's rightful control over its natural resources, asserting that the state will fight till the logical end to reclaim control over power projects.

“Water is the foundation of our dream to make Himachal the most prosperous state in the country by 2032,” he declared.

Sukhu raised sharp questions over what the state has truly gained from generating 12,000 MW of electricity.

“SJVNL has become a ₹6,7000 crore giant, but what has come back to Himachal? Our water flows to Punjab and Haryana, but what do we get in return?” he asked.

The CM was speaking after inaugurating a newly built three-storey parking complex at Sector 5, New Shimla, constructed at a cost of ₹ 2 crore. The facility will accommodate over 50 vehicles and is expected to ease parking woes in the area.

He underlined the challenges faced by his government on assuming office. “We inherited ₹75,000 crore in debt and ₹10,000 crore in pending dues for employees.

Still, we’ve managed to raise ₹2,500 crore in extra revenue over 2.5 years, without a single allegation of corruption,” he said.

Sukhu emphasized his government’s work on rural development, natural farming, and support prices for milk, maize, and wheat.

He also highlighted that Himachal restored the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) for 1.36 lakh employees — something even Punjab has not done yet.

In a major announcement, he said a ₹250 crore multi-purpose complex will be built in Vikasnagar, housing government offices and parking.

The CM praised Kasumpti MLA and Minister Anirudh Singh for active efforts in resolving Shimla city’s problems. “For the first time since Independence, Kasumpti has got a cabinet minister. Big changes in health and education are visible now,” Sukhu added.

Announcements for Kagnadhar (as demanded by Councillor R.R. Verma):

  • New parking facility sanctioned

  • Upcoming community centre

  • Primary Health Centre to be established

  • Assurance for addressing more civic demands in Kagnadhar

Minister Anirudh Singh said ₹250 crore worth of works are ongoing in Kasumpti. He also announced a modern library for New Shimla, calling the CM’s green energy vision “transformative.”

Mayor Surender Chauhan, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani, HIMUDA Vice-Chairman Yashwant Chhajta, APMC Chairman Dev Anand Verma, local councillors, and other dignitaries were present.
