ED ATTACHES ₹1 CRORE INDUSTRIAL LAND IN PANIPAT IN ILLEGAL CODEINE COUGH SYRUP DIVERSION CASE
Shimla/Chandigarh – In a major crackdown on the illegal diversion of pharmaceutical narcotics, the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Jammu Sub-Zonal Office, has provisionally attached industrial land valued at approximately ₹1 crore in Panipat, Haryana.
The property belongs to M/s Vidit Healthcare Pvt. Ltd., a company based in Sirmour, Himachal Pradesh.
According to officials, the attachment has been made under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, as part of an ongoing probe into the unlawful diversion of a Codeine-based cough syrup (CBCS) branded “Cocrex.” The syrup, which contains a regulated narcotic compound, was allegedly diverted on a large scale instead of being channelled into legal pharmaceutical supply networks.
Investigators believe that the diverted product was routed into illegal markets, fuelling drug abuse in multiple regions. The industrial land is suspected to have been acquired using proceeds generated from the diversion racket.
With this latest action, the ED has intensified its financial probe into the network involved, and more attachments or arrests are expected as the investigation progresses.
Authorities say the crackdown is aimed at dismantling organised supply chains of pharmaceutical-grade narcotics being misused for recreational consumption.
