HP Police appeal to citizens for support, 11 FIRs Lodged.
Shimla, November 25
Himachal Pradesh Police on Tuesday launched a massive anti-drug enforcement operation across educational institutions in all 12 districts
The police built on the statewide Anti-Chitta Drive initiated by the Chief Minister on November 15.
The campaign aims to strengthen the state’s commitment to a “Drug-Free Himachal” and protect young students from the growing threat of narcotics.
As part of the coordinated action, police teams carried out simultaneous searches inside college campuses, hostels and surrounding areas from 7 am to 4 pm.
The operation was conducted with the support of institution management and staff to ensure transparency.
Hostels, residential blocks, parking areas and isolated corners suspected of being used to hide narcotics were thoroughly checked.
During the operation they screened the mobile phones of students and hostel inmates to detect digital links, online transactions or any suspicious material connected to drug activity.
Police said the process was executed strictly as per legal procedure and under institutional supervision.
The crackdown extended beyond campuses. Shops, kiosks, vendors and local taxis operating near educational institutions were searched and verified to identify any possible supply chains or distribution networks.
Where irregularities surfaced, immediate legal action followed and several individuals were profiled for further investigation.
During the drive, several new sensitive points were identified. Institutions were issued fresh preventive guidelines and plans were drawn up to strengthen on-campus security.
Students were also briefed on the dangers and long-term impact of drug abuse.
Across the state, police searched 41 educational institutions and 598 shops and vendors located around them. The operation led to 12 criminal cases being registered and 385 challans issued for various violations.
The Himachal Pradesh Police reiterated that it is fully committed to its zero-tolerance policy against drugs and will continue to intensify efforts to ensure that campuses remain safe and drug-free.
In a strong appeal, the police urged citizens, parents, teachers and institutions to actively support the campaign.
They asked the public to immediately report any suspicious activity to their nearest police station or the toll-free helpline.
Officials said community cooperation is crucial for protecting young people from the dangers of substance abuse and for breaking the network that fuels drug supply in the state.
Experts say drugs in Himachal run too deep for one day raids. They warn that fear and shock alone cannot fight chitta.
Students feel mixed. Many say raids were needed. It has conveyed a strong signal to the students and those individuals who have been targeting the campus for making money from chitta.
Drug networks do not vanish. They shift hide and reinvent as has been happening in the past. The state must match that speed.
Numbers show activity not impact. The real test begins now.
Himachal needs a full year mission not occasional raids. Parents teachers counsellors, panchayats and NGOs must join. Youth groups and communities must stand together.
In its strongest message of the day, the Himachal Pradesh Police urged citizens to become active partners in the fight against chitta.
People were asked to immediately inform the police about any suspicious activity, unknown movement near campuses, or drug-related dealings by calling the nearest police station or the state’s toll-free helpline.
Officials said that timely public information is often the key that helps police track hidden supply chains and protect students from the growing drug threat.
