Himachal’s Daughters Lead India to Women’s Kabaddi World Cup
Shimla November11 : Fresh from the high of India’s ICC Women’s World Cup triumph, Himachal Pradesh has yet another reason to cheer. The state’s daughters are now set to make their mark on the global Kabaddi stage.
The world cup is being held at Dhaka in Bangladesh from November 15.
Ritu Negi of Himachal Pradesh has been appointed captain of the Indian squad for the second Women’s Kabaddi World Cup, while Pushpa Rana will serve as vice-captain — a proud moment for the hill state. Adding to the celebration, Bhavana Thakur, Sakshi Sharma and Champa Thakur have also earned spots in the national team.
Leaders and locals alike hailed the achievement, saying the remarkable rise of women sportspersons from Himachal has set up new benchmark for women inspiring the younger lot in the state. It was Renuka Thakur from Rohru who was among Indian squad creating history when India won the world Cricket cup last week in South Africa.
After rewriting cricket history, the country now looks to these Kabaddi warriors — led by Negi and Rana — as they carry India’s hopes to the world arena.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu congratulated the team, saying, “Our daughters are breaking barriers and making the nation proud. Himachal stands firmly behind them as they take India’s spirit to the global Kabaddi arena.”
