Bilaspur: Himachal Pradesh entered a new era of lake tourism on Sunday with the launch of its first floating jetty food court — a floating restaurant — on the scenic Govind Sagar Lake.
The project has been developed by the Govind Sagar Adventure & Water Sports Association and inaugurated by HPTDC Managing Director Dr. Rajeev Kumar (IAS).
Calling it a major step toward boosting lake-based tourism, Dr. Rajeev Kumar said, “The Association has been working since 2009 to bring Govind Sagar Lake onto the world tourism map.
This floating restaurant will not only enhance the tourist experience but also expand tourism opportunities in Bilaspur district. HPTDC will serve a variety of cuisines here.”
To make the initiative more attractive for visitors, an MoU was signed between Association President Saraj Akhtar and Hotel Lake View (HPTDC) Manager Tulsiram Thakur, under which tourists will receive special discounts on meals at the floating restaurant.
Saraj Akhtar added that the Association is actively promoting the “Chalo Bilaspur, Chalo Himachal” campaign to draw more travellers to the region.
The event saw the presence of several representatives from adventure and water sports associations, including Prabhat Chandel, Sarit Sharma, Aslam Khan, Anvesh Sharma, Sistah Gautam, Shalini Sharma, Dimple Sharma, and national water sports players Diksha Thakur, Aarti Thakur, and Akshay Katwal.
Talking about waste management, Akhtar said, “The panchayat vehicle comes to collect the waste. We gather all the waste from the jetty and hand it over properly for disposal,”, emphasising the association’s commitment to maintaining cleanliness around the floating restaurant.
In the traditional Himachali style, chief guest Dr. Rajeev Kumar and other dignitaries were welcomed with a cap, shawl, and memento, accompanied by the beats of local drums.
