Spiti Pensioners Hit Out at Govt Over Pending Dues, Seek Immediate Relief
Kaza, Lahul-Spiti November 10:
Pensioners in the cold desert of Spiti have sounded an alarm over long-pending retirement benefits, accusing the Sukhu government of ignoring their rightful dues.
From gratuity to DA arrears, leave encashment to medical reimbursement bills—none of it has been cleared, leaving elderly pensioners struggling for basic relief.
The temperature have dropped to minus degrees as winter has set in and the pensioners fee high and dry in the frigid cold desert as they need their pending dues, the pensioners demand.
At a meeting of the Pensioners Welfare Association, Kaza, members said the delay has pushed many retired employees into financial distress.
“The government must release all pending amounts without any further delay. Pensioners are facing real problems,” said General Secretary KT Bodh, who briefed members on the status of unresolved payments and raised the core demands.
The meeting was presided over by Association President Chhewang Dorje, who welcomed all members and thanked them for their continued support.
Bodh, in his address, outlined all activities carried out by the association over the last two years and placed the agenda before the house, including decisions taken in previous meetings and induction of new members.
The Association further decided that the present executive body will continue till May 2026, after which a new team will be elected.
However, the loudest message from Kaza was clear:
Clear our dues now. Stop the delay. Give the pensioners of Spiti the respect they deserve.
