Shimla – Himachal Pradesh is gearing up for a new apprenticeship policy, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu revealed today at a review meeting on Technical Education.
The proposed policy aims to offer a one-year apprenticeship in various government departments to students.
CM Sukhu emphasized the need for major reforms in the State’s technical institutions, which include 364 technical and vocational schools, with 184 of them being private.
He instructed the Technical Education Department to implement a system for better regulation and monitoring of these private institutions to ensure quality education.
The CM also called for the integration of ITIs and polytechnic colleges into unified campuses to optimize resources and improve efficiency.
He highlighted the need for industry-aligned, job-oriented courses to enhance placement opportunities for the youth and proposed a State-level Cell to align industry skill needs with trained manpower availability.
A presentation on the current state of technical education was given, and Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani contributed suggestions for raising educational standards.
Senior officials, including Secretary to the Chief Minister Rakesh Kanwar and Secretary of Technical Education Priyatu Mandal, attended the meeting.
