HRTC's operations

SHIMLA: The top-heavy Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) finally today decided  to resume its recruitment of 350 bus drivers soon. 

The Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri announced this during the 156th Board of Directors meeting today.

The hiring process was previously stalled.

HRTC also plans to fill 600 driver vacancies, purchase 250 diesel buses, 24 super luxury buses, and 50 tempo travelers, and invest around Rs 25 crore in electric buses. The Minister however didn't specify the deadline for this. 

The corporation is encouraging cashless transactions by offering incentives to conductors and will address its pending medical reimbursement bills of Rs 55.36 lakh.

BOD also  sought to find reasons as to why HRTC has been in losses. 

BoD did not discuss the poor plight of public transport in the capital city. So no relief for public from the overcrowded ramshackle private buses so far. 

One wonders where HRTC is running its new buses purchased over the years.

If it has buses it doesn't have enough drivers and conductors to operate them. HRTC remains top heavy Corporation all dipped in losses.
