Manali: In a step toward enhancing disaster readiness in Himachal Pradesh, Team 14 of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) undertook a comprehensive field visit today.
The team meticulously inspected disaster-prone areas, including the cloudburst sites in Palchan and Solang, as well as avalanche-prone zones in the region.
A major focus was the review of the Atal Tunnel Emergency Plan, a critical safety measure given the strategic importance of the tunnel, and they also assessed vulnerable areas around the Rohtang Pass.
Their visit underscores the NDRF's commitment to advanced disaster preparedness in the state, where natural calamities like cloudbursts and avalanches pose constant threats.
By identifying and evaluating these high-risk areas, the team is ensuring that emergency response plans are robust and ready to be deployed when needed.
The team's day didn’t end there. They also visited the Defence Geoinformatics Research Establishment (DGRE) and the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (ABVIMAS) in Manali.
At DGRE, the team gained valuable insights into snow and avalanche safety measures—essential knowledge for operating in Himachal's challenging terrain.
Their stop at ABVIMAS was equally important, where they expanded their understanding of the latest mountaineering tools and techniques. ABVIMAS, a premier institute known for training mountaineers, provided the NDRF team with advanced skills and equipment knowledge, crucial for their operations in mountainous regions.
These activities are part of Team 14’s ongoing efforts to enhance their preparedness and ability to respond effectively to disasters in Himachal Pradesh.
With this hands-on experience and new knowledge, the team is better equipped to protect and serve the people of the state during emergencies.
