Shimla, August 2 - Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri today visited the flood-affected areas of Bagi Pul, Matiyana, Kumarsain, and Sainj, where the Kurpan Khad water supply project and other schemes by the Jal Shakti Department have suffered extensive damage due to recent cloudbursts.
He stated that the Jal Shakti Department incurred a loss of around ₹10 crore in Bagi Pul alone.
Agnihotri emphasized the department's efforts to restore water supply swiftly to ensure residents don't face water shortages.
The Kurpan Khad project, which was nearing completion with a budget of ₹315 crore, was severely impacted, with its pump house, machinery, and tanks washed away by the floods. He has directed senior officials to expedite the reconstruction.
In the Matiyana area, the damage to booster pumps, intake structures, feeder lines, sump wells, pumping machinery, and pipes has resulted in an additional ₹10 crore loss.
In Rampur, 19 water supply schemes and a sewer line were damaged, costing ₹7.5 crore. Of these, 4 schemes were under construction he said.
So far, 10 water supply schemes have been restored, with the remaining 5 expected to be operational by this evening. Water supply to the Rampur hospital was restored yesterday.
During his visit to the flood-hit areas of Bagi Pul in the Nirmand region of Kullu district, Agnihotri met with affected families, sharing their grief and assuring them of the government's support.
He described the scene of devastation as both horrific and heartbreaking, noting that the washed-away bridge has left the community isolated.
He assured that the administration is actively engaged in relief and rescue operations, providing all possible assistance.
Accompanying the Deputy CM were Jal Shakti Department's Engineer-in-Chief Anju Sharma and other officers from various departments.
