Chamba, October 16: The United Doctors Front (UDF) Himachal Chapter has accused Chamba BJP MLA Hans Raj of publicly humiliating a government doctor posted at the Tissa Civil Hospital in Chamba district.

According to the UDF, the incident occurred when a mother brought her three-year-old child to the hospital late at night, complaining of pain in the urinary tract.

The doctor, Dr. Kulbhushan, was in his residential quarters within the hospital premises when a nurse informed him about the case. The doctor reportedly advised the nurse over the phone about the medication to be given, explaining that nothing more could be done at that hour.

However, the patient’s mother insisted that the doctor be called in person. When this did not happen, she later made a video alleging negligence, which went viral.

Acting on this, MLA Hans Raj reportedly visited the hospital and was seen in another video scolding the doctor publicly in front of staff and locals.

In the video, Hans Raj can be heard saying that he had received several complaints against the doctor and warned that if doctors had any issues, they should report them properly instead of neglecting patients.

The UDF condemned the MLA’s behaviour, saying, “An elected representative has no authority to publicly insult a doctor without following due process.

If there is any complaint, the legal procedure is to issue a notice to the doctor and allow him to explain his side.”

The Front alleged that the MLA “acted as if the doctor was employed in his private hospital,” without verifying facts or giving the doctor a chance to respond.

“The viral video was being misused to malign the doctor’s reputation and create distrust among patients and the public,” the UDF said, adding that the entire conversation that night had taken place only between the nurse and the doctor — not between the doctor and the patient’s mother.

Doctors in the region have expressed concern over growing instances of public humiliation and political interference in hospitals.

“When doctors are vilified without hearing their side, it creates fear and mistrust. Who will ensure their safety then?” one UDF representative asked.

The incident has once again sparked debate over the need to protect medical professionals from political pressure and mob outrage, particularly in remote hill districts where single doctors often manage entire hospitals.
