Keylong:
A massive avalanche thundered down the slopes of the Lahaul Valley on Saturday, facing Roling village, creating a breathtaking yet terrifying spectacle that was captured live by local residents on their mobile phones.
The visuals show the avalanche ballooning across the valley, a rolling wall of snow surging downward with immense force — a striking display of nature’s fury and fragile beauty.
As the cloud of snow expanded and settled, panic briefly gripped the area, but officials confirmed that no loss of life or property has been reported so far.
Residents of Roling village said the avalanche occurred after a series of heavy snowfalls in the region over the past few days.
Experts note that such avalanches become almost inevitable after continuous snowfall, as fresh, powdery snow layers fail to bind with older, compacted snow beneath.
Strong snow winds sweeping through the high-altitude valley further destabilised the slopes, triggering the slide. The avalanche eventually settled down calmly, leaving behind a vast blanket of snow spread across the valley floor.
Authorities have advised residents and travellers to remain cautious, avoid vulnerable slopes, and strictly follow advisories as avalanche risk remains high in Lahaul-Spiti following fresh snowfall.
