SHIMLA, July 1: BRO is on job to reopen the Jispa Nalla and Jahalma Nellas stretches for traffic in Lahaul-Spiti. Jispa is on  Manali- Keylong-Leh highway and  the  Jahalma is on Tandi- Udaipur-Killar-  Kishtwar  highway.

The traffic has been opened but the inflow of ragging Nallas increase daytime when snow starts melting in higher reaches in Lahaul-Spiti.

Even before the southwest monsoon has fully tightened its grip on Himachal Pradesh, rain has begun exposing the vulnerability of the state's mountain infrastructure.

The latest State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) report, compiled at 6 pm on July 1, shows that 44 roads remain blocked and 254 distribution transformers (DTRs) are out of service across the state, disrupting connectivity and electricity in several hill districts.

No drinking water supply schemes were reported affected till the time of the report.

The situation worsened sharply within 24 hours. According to the SEOC, only 16 roads and 84 transformers were affected during the morning assessment on June 30.

By the evening of July 1, the number had climbed to 44 blocked roads and 254 disrupted transformers, indicating that persistent rainfall is rapidly taking a toll on public utilities.

Mandi district has emerged as the biggest casualty of the season so far. A total of 28 roads have been blocked, including 17 in Thalot subdivision, nine in Seraj and two in Gohar.

The district has also suffered the highest power disruption, with 198 transformers failing across Jogindernagar (98), Gohar (50), Thalot (20), Sundernagar (10) and Dharampur (20), leaving thousands of consumers vulnerable to prolonged power outages.

Kullu district has also witnessed widespread disruption. Twelve roads have been blocked, including six in Kullu subdivision, three in Manali, two in Nirmand and one in Banjar.

Electricity supply has also taken a hit, with 11 transformers disrupted, including six in Manali and five in Thalot subdivision.

In Lahaul-Spiti, the weather has once again disrupted movement in the tribal belt.

Two roads in Udaipur subdivision remain closed, including the Phura-Jahalma Nullah alternate road, while a transformer supplying a stone-crushing unit at Chokhang has developed an internal fault.

Sirmaur has escaped road damage but not power failures. As many as 44 transformers have gone out of service, including 39 in Paonta Sahib subdivision and five in Rajgarh, affecting electricity supply in several villages and semi-urban areas.

Una district has reported two road closures due to rain damage. The Ajouli-Sanoli road near the Punjab border has been temporarily closed, with traffic diverted through the Sanoli-Melwan road, while the Bhaderkali-Jailo Di Badh link road has also been shut after rain cuts damaged the roadside.

The remaining districts—Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kinnaur, Shimla and Solan—reported no disruption to roads, electricity or water supply as of 6 pm on July 1.

However, disaster management authorities are closely monitoring the evolving weather situation as the monsoon advances further into the state.

For people living in the affected villages, the statistics translate into real hardship.

Blocked roads delay access to hospitals, schools and markets, while power failures disrupt daily life and livelihoods.

With the peak monsoon period still ahead, the latest SEOC report serves as an early reminder that Himachal's fragile mountain infrastructure is once again facing a severe seasonal stress test.

PWD and HPSEB spokesperson say the teams are on jobs to restore roads and electricity in the affected areas.
