VimalNegiDeathProtesrInShimlaFile

Shimla, March 6:

Nearly a year after the mysterious disappearance and death of Vimal Negi, a GM of the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL), the investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) appears to be drifting without a clear direction, deepening anxiety for the bereaved family and raising serious questions about the pace and credibility of the probe.

Despite the passage of almost twelve months since Negi went missing under mysterious circumstances, the investigation has made little visible progress.

The lack of clarity over the findings and the slow pace of inquiry have increasingly become a matter of concern for the family and entire engineering fraternity of Himachal after Negi went missing on March 10 and

The probe had earlier come under sharp scrutiny from the Supreme Court of India as well.

During hearings in November last year, the apex court had reportedly pulled up the CBI over the role of what it described as “bogus officers” involved in the investigation process, raising serious concerns over how the high-profile case was being handled.

In the latest development, the CBI has issued summons to Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi, who was serving as Superintendent of Police (SP) Shimla at the time of the incident and has since been promoted as Deputy Inspector General (DIG). Gandhi is currently serving as the Managing Director of HIMFED.

According to sources, the CBI asked Gandhi to appear before its officials in New Delhi on March 6 to join the investigation and answer questions related to the case. However, he did not appear before the agency on the scheduled date.

Sources further revealed that this was the third occasion when Gandhi has not joined the CBI investigation despite being called by the agency.

The development has added another layer of complexity to a case that has already seen months of uncertainty and controversy.

Investigators have been attempting to piece together the circumstances that led to Negi’s disappearance and subsequent death, but the probe has yet to arrive at any definitive conclusion.

For Negi’s family, the prolonged investigation has only deepened their distress. They continue to seek clarity on what exactly happened and who, if anyone, was responsible.

As the case completes nearly a year since the tragic episode first unfolded, the absence of concrete findings and the continuing summons of officials have raised fresh doubts about the direction in which the investigation is heading.

With the Supreme Court already expressing concerns earlier and key officials yet to fully cooperate with investigators, the case of Vimal Negi’s death remains unresolved — leaving family members  wondering whether the truth will finally emerge.
