Over 10.25 Lakh Pilgrims Visit Himachal Shakti Peeths During Navratri; HP Police Win Praise for Smooth, Peaceful Yatra
SHIMLA: Over 10.25 lakh pilgrims visited seven prominent Shakti Peeths and shrines across Himachal Pradesh during the Ashwin Navratri festival, prompting Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to commend the state police force for ensuring a peaceful, secure, and hassle-free pilgrimage.
According to official figures, a total of 10,25,726 devotees and 1,04,520 vehicles arrived at the state's major shrines during the nine-day festivities observed between October 11 and October 19, 2026.
Shri Naina Devi Ji temple in Bilaspur recorded the highest footfall with 3,95,226 devotees, followed by Shri Jawalamukhi Ji (1,80,000), Shri Chintpurni Ji (1,39,000), Shri Bala Sundri Ji in Trilokpur (1,06,600), Shri Chamunda Devi Ji (70,500), Shri Brijeshwari Devi Ji (69,400), and Shri Baglamukhi Ji (65,000).
Managing such an immense influx in the hill state presented considerable logistical challenges due to narrow approach routes, steep gradients, and constrained parking spaces.
To address these hurdles, the Himachal Pradesh Police implemented extensive arrangements covering crowd control, traffic diversions, parking zoning, queue management, and 24/7 security surveillance.
Director General of Police Ashok Tewari expressed gratitude for the Chief Minister’s commendation, noting that the recognition will further inspire personnel to execute their duties with sensitivity and dedication.
He also lauded district police chiefs, supervisory officers, and on-ground personnel for their tireless service, while reiterating the force's commitment to pilgrim and tourist safety.
Officials also urged citizens and travelers to utilize the emergency helpline ERSS-112 for rapid police, fire, or ambulance support.
Lauding the frontline personnel, temple administrations, and allied departments for their coordinated execution, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said:
"Ensuring the safety and convenience of lakhs of pilgrims visiting Himachal Pradesh’s sacred shrines is an important responsibility of the State Government. The dedication and professionalism displayed by our police personnel—who remained on duty for long hours to facilitate a pleasant and hassle-free experience—is truly commendable."
