The Results out for the 51 ULBs in Himachal. Congress and BJP Making claims and counter claims as elections weren't fought on party Symbols. Here is a case of Shimla district.
SHIMLA: With the final results of elections to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in Shimla district now out, the ruling Congress and opposition BJP have started claiming victory and trading political punches despite the fact that the elections were not fought on party symbols.
Interestingly, candidates officially contested as independents, but soon after the results, both parties rushed to put their political stamp on the winners, exposing how even grassroots civic polls have become a prestige battle between Congress and BJP in Himachal Pradesh.
While Congress leaders termed the outcome as a “public endorsement” of the Sukhu government, BJP leaders countered the claim saying anti-incumbency against the state government was visible in several wards.
Political observers, however, say the results reflect local equations, caste combinations, personal networks and ward-level issues more than any ideological wave.
In many places, candidates maintained distance from political banners during campaigning, only for parties to begin ownership battles once the counting ended.
According to the final results declared by the district administration, MC Theog and Nagar Panchayats Rampur, Kotkhai, Nerwa, Chirgaon, Sunni, Jubbal and Chopal witnessed keen contests, close finishes and even unopposed victories.
In MC Theog, Sh Madan won from Janog Ghat ward with 128 votes, while Kamla Sharma emerged victorious from Prem Ghat with 155 votes.
Seema bagged Naya Bazar ward with 91 votes and Kusum Sharma won Ram Bazar ward securing 157 votes. Bharti clinched Shali Bazar ward with 83 votes while Dinesh Sharma won Chhaidhala ward. Karuna Kanwar emerged victorious from Rahighat ward.
In Nagar Panchayat Rampur, Jai Shree registered one of the biggest wins from Raghunath Mohalla and Satya Narayan Mohalla ward by polling 405 votes out of 626 votes cast. Nitika secured Akhara Temple ward with 272 votes, while Visheshar Lal won Khaneri ward with 179 votes.
The Kotkhai Nagar Panchayat also saw keen contests. Rajesh Chauhan won Chhol ward with 59 votes while Rinki secured Bawri ward with 60 votes. Kalpana Nanda won Saray ward, Kavita emerged victorious from Stadium ward and Poonam clinched Giri ward. Amit Ghalta bagged Tehsil-Police Forest ward with 54 votes.
In Nerwa Nagar Panchayat, Sanjeev won Dhadu Bus Stand ward with 93 votes Seema Devi from Civil Hospital ward, Aman Sood from Old Nerwa ward, Rajender Singh from Bhawani Nagar (Bathinala) ward and Sandhira from Dundu Mandir ward were elected unopposed.

The Sunni Nagar Panchayat also witnessed one of the closest contests of the district where Amit Soni won Lower Bazar ward through draw of lots after a tie. Satya won Dano Mandir ward with 160 votes while Bala Dass bagged School ward with 125 votes.
In Nagar Panchayat Jubbal, Ranjana Aukta won Purana Jubbal ward with 71 votes, Sudharshana Sood bagged Palace ward and Anita registered a comfortable victory from Post Office ward with 34 votes out of 37 votes cast. Ravi Kumar won Hospital ward while Kumari Sonu emerged victorious from Dewra ward.
Meanwhile, results for Nagar Panchayat Chopal were also declared. Ajiv won from Ward No. 1, while Ritu emerged victorious from Ward No. 2. Mangal Ram won Ward No. 3 and Suman Verma secured victory from Ward No. 4. Jubbal Malek bagged Ward No. 5, Usha won Ward No. 6 and Poonam Thakur emerged victorious from Ward No. 7.
Though the elections were officially non-party based, political celebrations outside counting centres told a different story, with Congress and BJP workers raising slogans and projecting local ward victories as larger political verdicts.
For voters, however, the immediate concern remains whether the newly elected representatives will improve civic services, roads, drainage, parking and sanitation instead of becoming pawns in the state’s endless political slugfest.
