Solan, June 24:
A government school teacher in the Arki subdivision of Solan district has been arrested on charges of sexually harassing a 14-year-old girl student.
The arrest was made after the girl's mother filed a formal complaint at the Arki police station.
According to police, the minor alleged that the teacher had touched her inappropriately multiple times, causing her emotional distress.
The matter came to light when the girl shared her ordeal with her mother, who then approached the authorities.
The accused was taken into custody and presented before the local court. He has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Police have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. Statements of the student, her family, school staff, and other possible witnesses are being recorded.
Authorities have also informed the Child Welfare Committee.
Local residents have expressed concern over the incident and demanded strict action and better safety measures in schools.
The education department is expected to take departmental action once the preliminary report is submitted.
