Shimla: In a chilling incident that has once again raised questions about the growing audacity of criminals, a woman who had repeatedly expressed fears that she could be killed has been found murdered in the premises of her own school in Shimla.

Manisha Mittal, director of Saraswati Paradise International School in the state capital, had publicly warned on several occasions that her life was under threat. She had even approached the police and dialed the 112 emergency helpline seeking protection. Despite her repeated appeals, she was brutally killed, sending shockwaves across the city.

Mittal had been embroiled in a long-running family property dispute and had addressed a press conference on April 4, detailing her concerns. She had also taken to social media multiple times, claiming that she feared for her safety and could be attacked.

The murder has sparked concern over the apparent confidence with which criminals are operating. Even when a woman had openly flagged threats to her life and sought official intervention, her fears ultimately came true, raising uncomfortable questions about preventive policing and the protection of vulnerable citizens.

Following the incident, police have sealed the crime scene and deployed personnel across the school campus. A case of murder has been registered on the complaint of a security guard, and investigators are examining all possible angles, including the property dispute, personal enmity and other motives.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Mittal had stepped out to a nearby shop for essential purchases and was returning to the school premises between 6:00 pm and 6:30 pm on Saturday when the attack is believed to have taken place.

Police officials say forensic teams have collected evidence from the spot and multiple leads are being pursued. However, the killing of a woman who had repeatedly sounded the alarm about threats to her life is likely to intensify scrutiny of the system's ability to prevent such crimes before they occur.

As investigators piece together the events leading to the murder, the case has become a grim reminder that property disputes can quickly turn deadly and that warnings issued by potential victims cannot afford to be ignored. The brutal killing has left residents shaken and demanding swift justice for the victim.
