HMOAMEMBERS WITH CM SUKHU IN SHIMLA

HMOA urges CM Sukhu to appoint Director Health from Medical Fraternity, CM assures reversal of controversial notification

Shimla, June 26:

Taking a strong stand for the medical fraternity, the Himachal Medical Officers Association (HMOA) today urged Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to ensure that the post of Director General Health Services (DGHS) is filled by a qualified medical professional and not from the IAS or HAS cadre.

Leading the delegation, Dr. Vikas Thakur, General Secretary of HMOA,  told media:

“We appraised the Hon’ble Chief Minister that in most states, DGHS posts are occupied by experts from the medical field.

Even top institutions like PGI and AIIMS have directors from the medical fraternity. The CM patiently heard us and agreed to revert the notification very soon.”

The association also raised other long-pending issues, including the implementation of the modified career progression scheme and the low salary structure of field Medical Officers.

Dr. Thakur said the CM has assured another meeting with HMOA on July 5 to address the remaining demands and also invited suggestions for improving healthcare delivery in the state.

“This is a positive step. The CM’s assurance to reconsider the notification and give us a platform for further discussion shows his intent to strengthen the state’s health services,” Dr. Thakur added.

The HMOA has been consistently advocating for a fair representation of doctors in top health administrative positions, stressing that only professionals from the medical field can understand the complexities and needs of the public health system.
