SHIMLA, JULY 11: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of moderate to heavy rainfall in Chamba, Kullu, Shimla and Sirmaur districts of Himachal Pradesh on Saturday (July 11, 2026), while moderate rainfall is expected in Mandi, Kinnaur and Kangra districts.

According to the weather warning, the rainfall may lead to localized waterlogging in low-lying areas, slippery roads, poor visibility, traffic congestion, and temporary disruption of routine outdoor activities.

The advisory is particularly important for apple growers and other farmers, who have been advised to avoid field operations during periods of intense rainfall and ensure proper drainage to prevent waterlogging in orchards and agricultural fields.

The warning also comes at a time when thousands of tourists are visiting Shimla, Kullu-Manali, Chamba and Kangra, prompting authorities to urge visitors to avoid rivers, streams, waterfalls and landslide-prone stretches. Travellers have been asked to drive cautiously due to the possibility of skidding on wet roads and reduced visibility.

Residents and visitors have been advised to follow traffic advisories, avoid vulnerable areas, maintain a safe distance from water bodies, stay updated with the latest weather bulletins, and comply with instructions issued by the Himachal Pradesh government and local administration.

The IMD clarified that the warning is based on the previous day's initial weather conditions, and an updated forecast is expected to be issued shortly.
