Shimla, April 27 — In a tightly fought contest marked by intense lobbying across the Himachal Pradesh High Court and district bars, senior advocate Ajay Kochar and Sanjeev Bhushan have surged ahead, securing the first and second positions respectively in the State Bar Council elections.
Kochar, known for his pro-Congress leaning, and Bhushan, seen as aligned with left-leaning groups, managed to pull crucial support from different advocate blocs where ideological lines and personal equations played a decisive role.
With over 15 candidates in the fray, including several women, the remaining results are still awaited, keeping the contest wide open for other positions.
Sources confirmed that the election for the Chairperson will not be direct. Instead, the Chairperson will be elected from among the newly elected members, setting the stage for another round of lobbying once the final panel is in place.
The outcome underlines how affiliations, courtroom networks, and individual goodwill continue to shape the power dynamics within the legal fraternity in Himachal Pradesh.
