This decision, effective immediately, requires explicit permission from the forest department to fell trees like Triyambal, Toon, Padam, Ritha, and Baan, besides Mango trees.

However, people or right holders can still cut a maximum of five trees annually for personal use. The ban also extends to exporting timber and fuel wood out of the state to prevent illegal trade and conserve resources.

Chief Minister said  this move is crucial for preserving the state's biodiversity and addressing the problem of unlawful deforestation. Additionally, a revised list of allowable tree species has been introduced, permitting the felling of only thirteen types with prior notice to the Range officer, while clearance from the forest department is needed for cutting down other species.

This initiative not only protects native trees but also contributes to wildlife preservation said Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
