The move aims to ensure round-the-clock power availability for consumers in Shimla, even during severe weather conditions. The decision was made during a meeting with senior officials from the MPP and Power Department held here today by the CM.
Chief Minister Sukhu said proper duct system installation during cable laying and urged officials to explore extending this approach to other parts of the state.
Himachal Pradesh boasts substantial water resources, with an estimated hydro power generation potential of 24,567 MW.
The state has already harnessed 11,150 MW through 172 projects. Efforts to tap into the remaining potential are underway, involving private and public sector participation, he said.
This power generation drive aligns with Himachal's goal of self-reliance. The state is being promoted as a green energy hub, with plans to initiate new solar projects with a 500 MW capacity in the coming financial year.
A solar-powered battery energy storage system is in development for Pangi in Chamba district that will give local power supply. The government also intends to establish "Green Panchayats" in each district, with solar projects ranging from 500 KW to 1 MW.
The state government is advocating for increased royalty in power projects by Central Public Sector Undertakings, highlighting the matter at relevant platforms.
