Srinagar, August 23, 2026:
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has intensified its probe into a suspected cross-border terror conspiracy, conducting searches at 10 locations across Srinagar, Kupwara, Anantnag, Pulwama and Budgam to uncover the wider network allegedly supporting Pakistan-based handlers and infiltrated terrorists.
The searches, conducted on August 22, are part of an ongoing investigation into a conspiracy involving Pakistan-based handlers and a network of alleged Over Ground Workers (OGWs) suspected of providing logistical and other support to terrorists.
The case stems from FIR No. 0024/2026 registered at Police Station Zakura, Srinagar, and was subsequently re-registered by the NIA as RC-02/2026/NIA/JMU under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Arms Act and the Explosive Substances Act.
The investigation began following the arrest of an alleged OGW linked to the proscribed terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The arrest was made at a naka point during the late-night hours of March 31, 2026, following the recovery of a hand grenade and live ammunition.
According to the NIA, the investigation has since revealed alleged links between Pakistan-based handlers and local associates involved in communication, logistical arrangements, movement and concealment of terrorists, provision of shelter, reconnaissance and other forms of facilitation.
The agency is also examining the financial trail and communication channels associated with the suspected network, besides tracing the movement of weapons and explosives.
During the latest searches, further documentary, digital and material evidence was secured and is being examined and corroborated with evidence already collected in the case.
The NIA said the searches form part of its continuing investigation to identify all persons allegedly involved in the conspiracy and determine their precise roles in the broader support network.
The investigation remains underway, with the agency indicating that further legal action, including arrests or recoveries, may follow depending on the outcome of the evidence being examined.
